Brian Flemming

Brian Flemming, CM, QC, DCL is an international lawyer, writer and policy advisor. He practised law with Stewart McKelvey of Halifax for many years before leaving the firm to pursue private business interests and public service. In recent years, he was chairman of the Canada Transportation Act Review Panel, a statutorily decennial review of Canada’s transport policies. In 2002, he became the first CEO and chairman of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, Canada’s principal response to the tragedy of 9/11. In 2005, he became a founding member of the federal Advisory Council on National Security.

Mr. Flemming is currently a Fellow of the Canadian Defence & Foreign Affairs Institute in Calgary and writes regularly for this institute. He is also an honorary fellow of Dalhousie’s Marine and Environment Institute.
He has written hundreds of columns on many subjects for major newspapers in Canada. He has also written many papers and delivered discourses on a wide variety of public policy issues. In the late 70s, he was a policy advisor to Prime Minister Trudeau. He is a Member of the Order of Canada.
