Windsor Star editorial champions Citizen of One

MLI authors Brian Lee Crowley, Robert Knox and John Robson continue to make waves with their call for an Economic Charter of Rights for Canadians. The Windsor Star is the latest Canadian newspaper to agree with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute’s call for federal action on domestic trade barriers. In an editorial today, they comment on MLI’s recently-released Citizen of One, Citizen of the Whole study:

So far, only three provinces -- Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan -- have moved to sign agreements to encourage more trade, investment and mobility.

As a result, the Macdonald-Laurier Institute -- a non-partisan think-tank -- is calling on Ottawa to use its constitutional authority to get rid of the barriers through an Economic Charter of Rights and then set up a commission that would deal with non-compliance.

As the Macdonald-Laurier Institute points out, Ottawa has the moral authority and power to get rid of interprovincial trade barriers. What it really needs is the courage to dismantle them.

To serve and to honour…Crowley stands behind Canada’s Vets

John Ibbitson writes a piece in the July 14th printed edition of the Globe and Mail titled, Tories mull shrinking Veterans Affairs as old soldiers fade away. The Macdonald-Laurier Institute’s Brian Lee Crowley provided a very thoughtful take on the issue as part of the column. It is safe to say that Brian’s analysis outlines precisely the conundrum that the government faces. Read more here…

Jaworski lauds “spectacular” Canadian Century

Peter Jaworski has highlighted the Canadian Century online today at the Western Standard. He writes: Brian Lee Crowley (of the new Macdonald-Laurier Institute), Jason Clemens (Pacific Research Institute), and Niels Veldhuis (Fraser Institute) have penned what I think is a spectacular new book entitled "The Canadian Century: Moving Out of America's Shadow ." Jaworski, who is a Director of the Institute for Liberal Studies, also posted a video link to Jason Clemens' appearance at the University of Windsor earlier this year. That video is available on the MLI website… here.

You can hear the entire interview here (it starts at the 15:00 minute mark).

Financial Post full of it...the Canadian Century, that is!

The  editorial pages of Friday's Financial Post were chock full of reference to MLI's first book, The Canadian Century. There was William Watson writing about Canada’s enhanced image in the world and just opposite Jason Clemens and Niels Veldhuis, co-authors of Canadian Century, were exhorting the current political class not to “squander” that hard-earned economic reputation.
