MLI author Scott Newark in the Media: Crime-rate numbers don’t tell whole story
Since the release of Scott Newark’s National Post article on August 2, 2011, “Let’s be honest about crime“, it has received wide media attention. It was reprinted in the Sudbury Star on August 4th and the Hamilton Spectator on August 7th. It was also reprinted online in the Calgary and Surrey Beacon on August 3rd. Newark appeared on CFRA, Ottawa’s news talk radio, on August 4th to discuss the article and in this Monday’s edition of The Hill Times (August 15th), he will expand on the reforms still needed to the 2010 police-reported crime statistics.
Newark said, “We don’t need to be ‘tough’ or ‘soft’ on crime; we need to be honest about crime, so we can be smart about fighting it. Through improved reporting of crime statistics, we are on the road to doing exactly that.”
